Buying and installing faux wood horizontal blinds online is so easy that the hardest part will be choosing a color. Once that part of the process is over and your blinds have arrived in your home, then fun really begins and it's time to transform your room in just a few minutes. In fact you only need a few basic items in order to get started. You will need an electric or cordless hand drill with a 1/4" nut driver or a slotted screwdriver bit as a 3/32" drill bit, a pencil and a ladder. How simple was that? Let's get started and you'll be a pro in no time.
The first step is to check to see whether the blinds you are replacing are inside mounted or outside mounted. If you aren't sure, here's the difference. Inside mount blinds have the brackets inside the window's opening, and the blinds are inside that opening as well. Outside mount blinds have the bracket just outside the window's opening on the surrounding wall. The following instructions are for the inside mounted blinds only.
Drill Bit Kit
Now you are ready for the real fun part. Open the packaging the blinds were delivered in and locate all of the items needed to install them. You should have two brackets (labeled left and right) for each blind, screws, and valance clips. If your blinds are 72" inches wide or larger, you will also find the center support brackets as well.
With all of your supplies opened and ready, place the mounting brackets on the respective side of the window opening. This will save you valuable time, as well as avoiding mistakes by installing the brackets on the wrong side. To mount the blinds flush with the wall you will want the brackets to be mounted about ½" from the front edge of the window. Line one of the brackets in the window where you want it to hang. Make your two diagonal holes with the pencil. Remove the bracket, and drill a one inch deep pilot hole for your screw. Now that you have the pilot hole, you can put the bracket back in place and secure it with the screws. Now repeat the process on the opposite side of the window.
If your blinds are of the 72" or larger variety, you will have one extra step. You will now need to install your center support bracket. This step is very important and should never be skipped. The center support bracket keeps the larger blinds from sagging. Here's the easiest and quickest way to get the center support installed. You will need to hang the head rail in your already installed left and right brackets. Then you will slide the center support bracket onto the head rail and center it in the middle of the window. Mark it's location with your pencil. Now remove the head rail and bracket. Mount the center support with the screws according to your pencil marks. You can now replace the head rail over all three brackets and close the two outside brackets.
You're almost done. The final step is installing the valance. Carefully unwind the blind cords from the head rail making sure not to tangle them. Position the valance clips on the head rail about 18" apart, staying clear of the blind tracts and cords. Now, place the blind head rail into the brackets and snap the hinges closed. Finally, insert the valance into the valance clips.
Your blinds are now installed and ready to enjoy.
